The museums in this association are significant public-facing institutions that exhibit the work of their single artist, often in association with other artists and with documentary material to further the understanding of the namesake artist, her life, her historical context, her associations, and her heritage. The Association consists of approximately twenty museums, is self-governing, and meets on an annual basis in Europe or North America. Our Manifesto
The Artist’s Museum is grounded in the art, archives and biographical complexity of a single creative individual. Holistic and immersive, each artist’s museum is unique in its relation to its artist, but is always an entry into the living breath of the creative process, a laboratory for examining history through an individual life and vision.
